BBQ-ed chicken thighs

#Ad - not really an advertisement, but I got sent the coconut briquettes for free from Big K. Thought I would share my thoughts on here in a bit more detail!
I use their BCH or ACH 15 charcoal normally - but was keen to try the Cocoshell briquettes due to the sustainability of the product. So I emailed them when they put their request for 5 'testers' on Facebook & was lucky enough to be picked.
They lit really easily - used my normal process - pile a few in & then arrange them around a couple of flamers (or in this case Big K's 'Woodies') come back in 15 mins to check on progress.
Decided on some lunch time chicken (with leftovers for the family) - so deflector plate went in on the Kamado Joe Junior.
As it was a lunch time cook, it needed to be simple - so I opened a pack of skinless chicken thighs I had in the fridge, liberally covered them in Only Bones' Candifornication & placed them on the grill. 5 minutes before the Meater+ said that they were cooked, I brushed with some homemade BBQ sauce - I (very) loosely follow the Wicked Good BBQ recipe which the family & I love. A quick chop of a couple of the thighs & stuffed into a spare brioche bun with a bit more BBQ sauce. Delicious lunch!
The briquettes came up to temperature quickly, held it nicely for the relatively quick cook (35 mins or so). No real 'different' smokey flavour to the chicken from the briquettes - so a neutral fuel from that perspective. As you would expect from such a quick cook - there was plenty of fuel left over & I'll be able light & use them again once the surface ash is knocked off.
All in all, reasonably impressed with these - a slightly longer cook next & then finally I'll do a pork shoulder or similar to see how they stack up on long cooks. #Ad #BigKProducts.
